Basic Front Punch

BASIC FRONT PUNCH
-KIHON SHOMEN TSUKI-

1. Assume Heiko Dachi (feet approximately 18 inches apart) parallel to each other, pointed forward. Weight distributed evenly on both legs,
hands to your front approximately 6 inches from your body and 3 inches apart.

2. Your hips and shoulders squared to the front, body straight, with head and eyes focused on your imaginary opponent.

3. Extend your right arm fully with the knuckles facing out forward focused on your imaginary opponent’s solar plexus.
Extend your left arm with the knuckles facing out and place the left fist on the right fist, left little finger is on top of the right index
finger. Keeping the left arm in place, drop the right arm to your side, then turn your left wrist right until your knuckles are 45 degrees with
the index knuckle in line with the top of your arm.

4. Place your right arm to the side of your body with the forearm parallel to the floor and knuckles facing down forward, fist at the side of your
body.

5. Following moves are done simultaneously:

a) Rotate your left fist to your left in a spiral motion, withdrawing your fist to
the side of your body, your left knuckles are facing down forward, forearm
parallel to the floor.

b) Rotate your right fist to your left in a spiral motion and extended it with your
index knuckle in line with the top of your arm and fist at 45 degrees.

NOTE: Your arm should be relaxed until your
fist is approximately 6 inches from
your target. This gives it the snap
action, lock in your elbow upon contact.
