Square Stance/Kicking Stance

SQUARE AND KICKING STANCES
-HAKO DACHI TO ZENKUTSU DACHI-

Right Square Stance to Kicking Stance:

1. Place a mark on the floor and refer to it as “COMMON POINT”

2. Place your left heel on the common point with your foot pointed forward. Now place your right heel on the common point next to your left heel with your foot on 90 degrees in respect to your left foot.

3. Advance each foot forward approximately 8 inches with your weight distributed evenly on both legs and knees bent over your big toes.

4. The upper body is straight, head and eyes focused on your imaginary opponent and your shoulders are 45 degrees in respect to your opponent.

5. This is your right square stance.

6. Twisting your hips to your left, pivot on the ball of your right foot, your hips, body and both your feet are now facing forward. Your right knee is locked and your left knee remains bent over your big tow.

7. This is your right kicking stance.

8. Same sequence applies in reverse for your left square stance and left kicking stance.
