-Gedan Barai-
Left Downward Block
1. Assume Kiba Dachi. (Feet approximately 29 inches apart, parallel to each other pointed forward. Weight distributed evenly on both legs, knees slightly bent so they are over the big toes. Hands to your front, 5 inches from your legs and 3 inches apart).
2. The following moves are done simultaneously:
a) Bring the left arm up diagonally across your chest with your fist between your right shoulder and neck with knuckles facing forward.
b) Assume right diagonal stance. (Pivot on the balls of your feet)
c) Swing left arm downward, pivoting at the elbow till your left fist is approximately 5 inches directly in front of your left leg, with the back of your knuckles facing forward and your right arm is in the cocked position.
d) Execute slowly.
3. For right downward block reverse procedure.
NOTE: Cocked position—Your right fist is against the right side of your body pulled back with the forearm parallel to the floor, the back of your knuckles facing down.
Common Corrections:
a) Body and block not coordinated.
b) Swinging of blocking over the head.
c) Distance of blocking arm from your body
d) Feet not at a 45 degree angle (Not pivoting on the balls of the foot)
e) Cocked arm not pulled back and forearm not parallel to the floor.
