SIDE THRUST KICK
-Yoko Kekomi Geri-

Right Side Kick

1. Assume Heisoku Dachi. Shift your weight slightly to your left leg with right heel along side of
your left leg, thigh and foot is parallel to the floor. (This is your cocked position).

2. The following moves are done simultaneously:
(Explain prior to executing):

a. Thrust your right leg out to the side with heel pushed forward, using the edge of your
foot in line with your leg as the striking area and knee locked for shock effect.

b) Pivot your left foot to your left with the knee slightly bent and foot flat on the floor.

3. To recover resume cocked position and into Heisoku dachi.
(Reverse procedure for left side kick)

NOTE: The striking point of the foot should be in direct line with the rest of your leg.

Common Corrections:

a) The heel of the kicking foot, hip and shoulder must be aligned.
b) Base foot must be flat on the floor with the knees slightly bent.
c) Thrust of kick and body must be coordinated.
d) Your striking point must be in line with your leg.

1. Imaginary Opponent

a) Realistic reaction because of or to your imaginary opponent

b) Complete comprehension of the technique

1) Know what reaction to expect when given technique
is proficiently executed.

2) Also know what you may expect if it should fail or miss.

c) Apply the basic application guideline.

1) Light (soft) and Heavy (hard) application of STRENGTH.
2) Fast and slow movement (Speed)
3) Expansion and contraction

Expansion – Like all animals or birds that make themselves
appear bigger than they are or meaner.
Contraction – Tightening of the muscles when in tension or
snap action when blocking.
